Open Gate graduate in 2018

I was born in Litvínov and attended the local grammar school there. In the ninth grade, I transferred to the Open Gate grammar school, where I studied until passing the Czech school leaving exams and also the International Baccalaureate exams, thanks to support provided by The Kellner Family Foundation. During my last year at the school, I reconsidered my goals and decided to study veterinary medicine. I spent the whole year intensively learning biology, which was not among my subjects, and finally reached the University of Veterinary and Pharmaceutical Sciences in Brno to major in Veterinary Medicine. My primary inspiration for this specialization was my love of dogs, horses, and cats.

University of Veterinary and Pharmaceutical Science in Brno, a six-year Veterinary Medicine program (in English), started in 2018, expected graduation with a doctorate in veterinary medicine in 2024.

Goals

My primary goal is to graduate with a degree in veterinary medicine. I would also like to broaden my horizons in dog breeding. Going forward, I envisage having a dog pack and a happy family. After graduation I want to put my knowledge to use at a veterinary clinic and, primarily, to help as many animals as possible and to get to know them better.

Interests

My greatest joy is spending time with animals. I have minded several dogs for the past two years. I also like equestrianism. I am a fan of TV series and I love food, but I also like to delve into new activities. I also enjoy working out in a fitness club and travelling with my friends and family.

Successful entry into the third year

I have already completed one of the most difficult exam periods, but unfortunately without time for a subsequent rest. I finished my exams on February 12 and my next semester started on February 15. Of course, our school continues in the distant form.

Third of my studies done

The beginning of each semester is quite hard. Moreover, if I manage to have two weeks off in between of winter and summer semester. I always tell myself that I should study on hundred percent right from the start. Nevertheless, the motivation tends to decline, and at the end, I rather relax after the school than study.

Winter semester of the second year

In my life nothing has changed during this semester. Every day progresses in the same way. Waking up, spending the day in school and then studying in my room. I am glad that I have started to go to practice at least. It enriches my knowledge and also represents another activity then sitting behind the desk.

I am good

The summer break is gone and half of the third semester as well. During the summer break I was relaxing, I went to a vet to practice, I took care of dogs, and mainly I spent some time with my family. However, the summer break is behind me and I focus on school now. The second year seems calmer than the first one. Despite the fact that more difficult exams are ahead of me, I have more time and I don’t have to study intensively every day. Among my subjects are Physiology, Biochemistry, Animal Nutrition, Animal Protection & Ethology, Microbiology, Ecology, Basics of Veterinary Care and Hunting. At the end of third semester I have exams from Physiology and Biochemistry.

One step closer to my goal

Finally, I am done with the first year, and I cannot believe what happened in such a short amount of time. In the second semester, I had ‘only’ six subjects, which was a huge improvement compared to the first semester. However, these subjects were more time demanding, so in the end I have concluded that the first semester was nothing. Among my subjects were Anatomy, Histology, Physiology, Biochemistry, Botany and Zoology. Only two of them were finished with an exam, Anatomy and Histology.

Finally a small part behind me!

Finally and moreover successfully, I have the first semester done. It was hard, but I knew that. Fortunately, I did not have to repeat any exam. On the other hand, others say that the second semester is a much harder, so I am a little bit afraid or rather curious how it is going to look like.

New Academic Year

To be honest, I do not know where to start. From the beginning of the school year, not even two months passed, and it seems to me like at least half a year. Many exams are already behind me, the amount of required knowledge is still increasing, but at the same time I feel like at home. Everyone around me is so helpful and kind.
