New Academic Year

To be honest, I do not know where to start. From the beginning of the school year, not even two months passed, and it seems to me like at least half a year. Many exams are already behind me, the amount of required knowledge is still increasing, but at the same time I feel like at home. Everyone around me is so helpful and kind.

UNIVERSITY
Thanks to the international programme, I have the opportunity to meet people all around the world. The university standard and also the standard of the English programme really surprised me. University campus is a heaven for animal lovers. Most of the students have at least one dog, others take horses from school stables and go for a walk with them; therefore, I am surrounded by animals every day.
Something about the school system:
Our schedule changes every week – even and odd weeks. Lessons are divided into lectures and practicals. The presence on lectures is voluntary, but on practicals is mandatory. I have ten subjects in totalplus PE. PE, which is an optional subject, is mainly for my entertainment. However, I have not expected to go every Tuesday to the lesson, and then cry till Friday because of the body pain. Most difficult and demanding subjects in the first semester are definitely anatomy, histology, and biology. I think, that one finds out here the extent of knowledge which is able to absorb in such a short time. For example, I have an oral exam from anatomy in two weeks which includes all bones, joints, ligaments, tendons and muscles. It may not sound so horrible, but when you imagine that you have to know almost every structure on every bone, and compare everything in four groups of animals; believe me, it is not easy at all. Luckily, I still take everything with humor. I am not desperate and rather positive towards every obstacle in my way, and so far it works.

ACCOMODATION
I live at Kaunicovy student dormitories, which are situated close to my school. Its quality is really satisfying. It is very nice historical building, bus stop is right next to it and goes right in front of my school campus, around are many parks, swimming pool, tram to the centre etc. Moreover, when the student is alright with a little bit decreased quality then it is possible to move to block A where animals are allowed.

BRNO
Since I have lived in Prague for four years, I was a little bit worried about Brno at the beginning. You know the story - people from Prague against people from Brno and vice versa. However, I was very surprised. Not only you can find almost everything which is in Prague here, but also the smaller size of the city is a big advantage. Moreover, one may find lots of nature; people are very nice, and less stressed.

FUTURE
My biggest priority is my successful completion of semester and exams now. Moreover, I would like to live in a flat from January which is also connected to a job that I would like to do. Furthermore, I think about volunteering at the horse clinic and clinic for small animals in our school. Nevertheless, I am still waiting till the end of semester to see if I will have time for it.

If I can give any advice to the future university students who may consider the University of Veterinary and Pharmaceutical Sciences Brno, then the most important is: You have to love it, and then it is easy. However, if you are not fully devoted to this field, then there is a high probability that you just lose one year of your life.
