Where is the time for holidays?

I have successfully finished the first semester at the Faculty of Medicine in Hradec Králové, surviving the spoken exam from Biophysics and passing the written exams from Anatomy and Histology. It was rather hard and one would appreciate having some kind of rest, but a new semester begins and there is no room for that. I sometimes think about the years at high school and secondary school, recalling the memories of relatively frequent holidays in comparison to the university where there are none.

It may seem unrealistic, but the second semester is even more hectic and insane than the first one. The only positive thing is that the dissections taking place in this semester are still ongoing despite the coronavirus situation. Though there are some limitations like splitting the students up into tiny groups, which means spending only half an hour at the dissection room, it is still better than having no dissections at all. You cannot effectively compensate them as it is extremely important to be physically present and experience the feeling of cutting the flesh. How deep you can go without damaging life-needed structures, how to avoid them. Those are practical skills going to be particularly needed in Surgery, which is one of the obligatory subject in the medicine studies.

There are also some adjustments regarding the time table and the subjects taught in the second semester. We attend Biology classes instead of Biophysics. Furthermore, the Histology course is extended by Embryology, which is going to be immensely interesting and I am really looking forward to it. It fascinates me how a complex human body is formed from two cells within such a short span, just amazing.

Anyway, it is time to go studying, the whole urinary system awaits me. So let me end this brief note and say good bye to you, I will write something new soon
