University: The New Normal

I consider our university's approach to this situation very positively,  we  switched to online teaching in a nick of time as early as March and over the summer the administration managed to plan a regime that retained the main positive of studying at our school – the "Hands-on Experience."

The school assessed the risks of personal attendance conscientiously and decided that all such lessons must take place in just a single day for the student. All other lectures and sessions were transferred to the online environment, which I think is a big positive new benefit of this whole situation. I hope and believe that not only the universities, but also large companies will realize the positive benefits of working from home. However, it should be mentioned that in larger families working from home may not be entirely comfortable; the contrary is truth, it can be rather problematic.

As a second-year student, I am now applying for placement year opportunities. Compared to the last year, when I had to take a six-hour train journey with several transfers from Bristol to the north of Birmingham for an interview for a summer internship, admission procedures are considerably more accessible today. Now you just need to connect to the call, simply turn on the microphone with the camera and show the best of you.

Online conferences, but also regular meetings with friends in a group of more than six people have now become our new bread and butter. These days I only hope that a joke about grandma telling her grandchildren about what it used to be like to go to school every day will not become a reality of our future life.
