The third year has started

The last year of my Bachelor’s program matters the most. Why? It’s simple - the biggest part of the grade on the diploma is derived from the grades for the year; grades from the second year are added, but their weight is lower.

The last year of my Bachelor’s program matters the most. Why? It’s simple – the biggest part of the grade on the diploma is derived from the grades for the year; grades from the second year are added, but their weight is lower.

Maybe it just seems so to me, but this year started at a much faster pace; everybody around is more motivated to work, teachers and professors are zealous and you can see that they like and enjoy their subjects, as my schoolmates do. A full half of my first assignments that we are completing currently are team assignments, and you can really see a different, more proactive approach in all team members.

Teamwork is very good for getting to know people from different cultures, as you can see and understand diversity, as well as learn or practice other languages than English. This gives me an opportunity to practice Spanish and learn a little in other languages. When we are not teaching each other foreign languages, teamwork is good in that you can share different opinions and ultimately reach the same conclusion. One wouldn’t suspect how heated a legal discussion on the topic of Corporate Governance can be at a time of crisis when you could expect a single opinion to the effect that control should be more strict.

For this year, I try to teach my schoolmates a little Czech in return for other languages, and pass on my experience with Bloomberg terminals and my financial analysis and corporate research knowledge. As the financial situation on markets is deteriorating – and maybe also with anti-capitalists protesting just a few hundred meters away from school – more people want to understand markets not just from newspapers, but also from figures – that is to say, from the way they really work. Understanding everything about financial instruments of today is rather complex, but with Bloomberg headquarters just a few meters away from my school, I can go there to gather knowledge for conferences on how banks should be regulated and for training about various financial instruments.
