The longest holidays

Usually if you enjoy something, time flies, and vice versa. I had barely signed my exercise books, and the final exams were here. I finished them in mid-May, and that started the longest holidays that I have experienced as a student so far.

Usually if you enjoy something, time flies, and vice versa. I had barely signed my exercise books, and the final exams were here. I finished them in mid-May, and that started the longest holidays that I have experienced as a student so far.

Even though I used unsigned exercise books, I managed to collect quite a wealth of information. It showed clearly when I was moving. My school things filled several boxes, and even though certain papers might have appeared unnecessary (inasmuch as I had read them already), I refused to leave behind a single thing. Maybe it was for sentimental reasons, but certainly because my second semester at UNYP was really important for me. My schedule, packed with subjects covering all possible aspects of psychology, helped me to pave my way to my desired goal. I’m not saying the path will be straight or that I’m 100% determined to be a clinical psychologist. Still, I will start volunteering at Prague’s Motol hospital in September.

The title above shows that the academic year ended very early. I had passed all my exams by mid-May, and my holidays started. Foolishly, I was looking forward to resting and “recharging my batteries”. A single week would have been enough, but I knew subconsciously that I could not stand doing nothing, so I made new appointments with students for teaching English. I also went to a camp in Spain as a guide, attracted by an opportunity to see the sea for free. Having returned from the subtropical zone, where I took care of children from the 1st to the 9th grade, I went to yet another camp, this time “only” to the Krkonoše Mountains. It was an English-Czech camp where I had been the chief guide last year. I enjoyed it much more since I had much more say concerning the program and was able to shape it.

I found that I can assert myself as a leader if I am enthusiastic about something. I used to convince myself that the opposite was true and refused to lead any group projects.

The end of August is approaching, but I am not going back to school until October. I will teach English all through September; I was also offered to teach a group of children or adults at a language school. I am signed up for a mandatory training so that I do not go against their company rules and regulations. In addition, my schedule will include my aforementioned volunteer work at Motol, and I have enrolled in driving lessons. The rumors that the testing procedure will get much more difficult in 2014 prompted me to arrange for my second “adulthood exam” now.

Now that the holidays are over, I am full of energy again and I miss school (sounds scary, right?). I am looking forward to English literature, to reading and then analyzing the greatest English and American books. A perfect subject! I am sure to mention it in my next post. The question is, will it meet or surpass my expectations, or vice versa?
