The absence

The borders of light are seen only thanks to the darkness, the melody is a sound carved in silence and when people talk about evil, they talk only about the lack of good

Many people would confess that the importance of someone close in their lives truly understood only after that close person got far from them. Some even write novels about it...And it is ever-present truth, maybe even more true than nowadays.

We humans tend to get used to things. We get used to people around us, to colors, sounds and smile surrounding us, to cars, to always opened restaurants and shop, to schools and monotouslz repeating days. And very soon we stop to think whether we like certain parts or not, we just go with a flow, we have got used to it. We have a habit, a custom, and that is nice.

It is striking how fast we stop appreciating the possibilities, opportunities and joy, which the life brings. It is so easy to get used to luxury and comfort. So, paradoxically, we first understand the value of our well-being only after it is (at least partly) denied to us. Only after we cannot attend concerts and theatres we realize how beautiful feeling it is to be in such a place. Only after the schops and restaurants are closed, we realize how well we live and eat. Only after the schools schut down, we understand how important the personal contact with the teacher and classmates is.

The absence of human – the absense of confused looks of classmates, the absense of nervous lecturer correcting the errors ona blackboard, the absense of smiles...This all leads to a great desire to experience everything once more and better, fully. Finally be there, finally enjoy all those wonderful simple moments of everyday life we would nearly (were there no coronavirus) forget.

I do not want to write about losses, because many others have already done that. Moreover, I believe that any loss is an opportunity for a new gain. I have no illusion that once the pandemic subsides, everything will quickly return to its old ways and all what we so desire now will be just everzday routine. But now, now is the moment for momentary insight! The moment of shortage. The moment of absense. The moment which can reveal so much beuatiful about our lives. It would be silly to waste it.
