Studies in Durham almost finished

Last term I finally got an opportunity to start tutoring, which is something I was interested in since last year, but unfortunately at that time it wasn’t possible to find a match for me. It is a student volunteering project, which provides tutoring for local secondary school pupils in various subjects.

I signed up for tutoring maths, and I enjoy this activity very much. I am happy that my pupil is interested in the subject and puts effort into her improving and that I can help to develop her skills. It is an interesting experience for me to explain things I already take for given and it gets a bit easier for me every time.

I still spend most of my time on my final year project. This term, we made a poster and gave a presentation about our work so far. It was useful for me to make an overview of the topic and it helped me to formulate a plan of action for moving ahead with my project.

I am happy with my choice of modules and I realise gradually how they are all interconnected. Some of them are also related to the topic of my project. I enjoy topology the most, where we are learning abstract thinking and we are introduced to many new and important mathematical concepts. I am eager to explore its applications in my future studies.

In terms of cultural events, lately, I took part in a trip organized by my college to the Bowes Museum, where we saw many interesting art expositions. Last term I enjoyed very much a student dance show which was a variation of the popular Strictly Come Dancing. From upcoming events, I am looking forward to attend the musical Grease.
