Second year of MA in Bath

Beginning this academic year, Bath Spa University has started competing in the British Colleges & Universities Sport leagues.

As you may know from my previous blog entry my life in Bath currently revolves pretty much only around Uni work and basketball. Although the path to making this work and to organise everything necessary for running the society was a rather rusty one at first, we can now say all initial troubles have been resolved and we can finally start focusing on the game to the fullest. The first sign of a great student experience coming out from this was the huge amount of people who actually signed up to be part of our sports team. At the fresher’s fair, which is an event organised for students to find out about all the sports and other societies at the university, there were over 120 students who showed interest in joining us. Although this seems like a big number at first, we kind of guessed this number would eventually get cut down by at least two thirds, and this assumption proved to be right in the following two weeks. We now have two teams, men’s team of 14 players, and a girls’ team of 9, and have already had a victory. Competing in university league is a tough challenge, especially for a newly set up team, however this motivates us to put in the hours and to keep improving.

Regarding my academic life, things are alright. As one would expect, the work load is getting bigger and the uni in general is more demanding than ever before. I am close to finishing another module, focusing on research methods; this should help me get ready to write a dissertation on MA level. I am going to start another module on research methods, where I will finally decide on the actual topic of my dissertation and start working on the proposal.

We are going on a one week trip to Spain in late March as part of the world’s biggest university sports festival which should be great and I already cannot wait. Loads of unis from UK go there and compete in all kinds of sports. I will tell you more about this amazing event in my June blog entry.
