Second trimester of MA in Bath

Second trimester is near its end and I am already looking forward to the third trimester, where I will be focusing on my independent study while doing a placement at one of the local primary schools.

During the last couple of months I have taken a part in several interesting researches in the educational industry and also the in-class use of ICT. I would like to mention one particular research I took part in, which also presented us some valuable knowledge. The topic of focus for this research was ‚How laptop multitasking hinders classroom learning for both users and nearby peers? ‘ This was actually my first proper larger scale research and I would like to take it further and focus on the differences of the ill effects of laptop using at female and male pupils.

I have started teaching Czech. There is this guy who’s mother is Czech and had emigrated to UK couple of decades ago. He has found me through the university email system and we set up 2 hour meetings on weekly basis, where I teach him Czech and he, in return, proofreads my essays or other stuff for uni, when I need to. It is interesting to see how much one discovers about a language once you start teaching it. I am enjoying the realizing of the connections and rules of Czech language I haven’t noticed before.

As I mentioned in the previous entry, my study group used to be made of only 3 students, however this term we’ve had 4 new comers, transferring from another subject.

The construction works at the university campus, that began last year, are quickly nearing its end and I must say it looks more than promising. There’s going to be a whole new set of buildings for student dormitories and also one huge multifunctional state of the art centre for training purposes of future teachers and for Media students. All works should be done by the end of this academic year. The cost of this development went up to the staggering 70 million pounds.

The school activities, discussions, projects and researches are in my opinion good enough reasons to look forward to the upcoming third trimester, which I hope will bring a lot of new experiences and findings. Add the thought of a finished construction works at the uni campus and what you get is something I cannot wait for already.

Be well and see you at in my next blog entry,
