Lockdown 2.0

After spending almost nine months back home with my family, I finally arrived in Manchester, ready to start going back to my university classes, having a routine, and ready for my life to go back to “normal”.

I spent my first two weeks in self-isolation, which I really enjoyed thanks to my flatmates. However, the hope of having classes in person faded away with the first university e-mail telling us that our first two weeks will be held online and later disappeared completely when the second national lockdown was put in place.

Online classes are understandably very different from face to face teaching – I do not have to leave my house, my room, or even my bed. I’ll let you decide whether this is an advantage or not. The workload is paramount to previous years and all of our exams have transformed into lengthy essays and piles of homework. Although our teachers are trying their best, it is evident that this semester lacks personal contact and much-needed feedback. In the meantime, I’m trying to research my future possibilities, whether that would be undertaking a Master's degree or applying for Graduate Schemes. I have applied for a couple of business roles, did many online tests and even some interviews, however, I am still waiting for a response from most of the companies.

As for the accommodation, I live with three of my good friends, and thanks to the lockdown we have a lot of time to bond. That usually consists of cooking together and ordering an excessive amount of takeaways. Living together with British people has definitely taken a toll on me as I start to pick up their slang, mannerism, and even eating habits. Some might say I’m getting the right British experience.
