Keep calm and prepare for next year

Important events seem to have collected at the end of the school year. Many otherwise rarely occuring things happened in the time span of a few months, but fortunately, they were all good things.

I finished my second year at university with a higher average than last year, I’ve been chosen to act as a president of the archery club and also got myself a job as a student ambassador for international students. I successfully finished my Swedish course, convinced my friend that taking a trip to “eastern Europe” will be worth it, and made it to ACA championships as one of the 20 students from all of Britain and Ireland who scored the best scores on Adobe accreditation tests.

The whole school year went calmly and fast at the same time. In terms of university work and projects, we had the opportunity to try new methods and techniques at the beggining of the year and that motivated me to let my graphics tablet lie and try other things, like printing a book in potato stamps (see my last post). We had less modules to finish, only three bigger ones, probably as a preparation for next year, which will consist of one big project and our dissertation. For the last module, I illustrated a music book which describes animals and makes children guess based on the songs and small hints. For inspiration, my classmates and I went to see the degree show and started planning ours.

I dedicated a lot of my year to archery and enjoyed joining the management as secretary. I have, however, been promoted to being president of the club next year and therefore have all the responsibility on my shoulders, including passing on the legacy to a “younger generation”, as I am leaving after next year. I am slightly terrified but excited at the same time and I believe that all will go well. I am also excited about starting my new job as a student ambassador, which will allow me to show the beauty of Coventry and the university to new students and anxious parents.

I’ve already written about the beauty of Swedish, but I have now finished the course and gained basic communication skills as well as a scarf in colours of the Swedish flag as a reward for being skilled in quickly shouting out Swedish numbers.

After being done with our last deadline we organized a “week of fun” (we had a picnic, visited the beautiful town of Kenilworth and played board games), but when all my friends left to their homes, I expected to spend the last few weeks before going home by walking around town and shooting. However, I unexpectedly received an email, inviting me to attend the Adobe Certified Associate championships and left fo Adobe HQ in Maidenhead with another four Coventry students. There were 20 of us from the whole of Britain and Ireland, who have received the best scores in the Adobe tests and on the day, we were assigned to create a design for a local charity. The event was amazing with a friendly atmosphere, despite its original competitive nature. I didn’t win, but I gained the experience, some contacts, a certificate and a cap that not many other people own.

All there is to say now is that the holidays are here, I am enjoying them fully and getting excited about the before mentioned friend who is coming next week to explore the beauty of my home town, Kutná Hora. Next year excites me too, even though it’s mixed with nervosity, as it’s my last year in Coventry. That, however, is just another reason to enjoy it as much as possible.
