In Brief

It seems that my previous post practically foretold the future: I am all about books in the moment. I have started a new part-time job in a bookstore at the end of September. For sure, in this way I have sarificed the few remaining afternoons I had left, but those precious hours are definitely worth it. The time spent amongst bookshelves, trying to fit in an infinite amount of books and searching for titles whose names are often creatively altered by customers, offers a huge advantage: I can afford not to think of my other duties for at least a few hours a week. My colleagues are great people, the books make one smile all the time and customers are (usually) fun to work with. The only exception would possibly be those looking for “that one with the blue covers” or any primary school textbook. Reason? There are way too many candidates.

Unfortunately, I do have to take the badge saying “Dominika – I am learning” at some point and face my real obligations: not trying to remember which shelf holds humour books but thinking of the dangerously approaching deadlines. I am collecting all the documents necessary for my application for masters programs in the Netherlands in the moment. So, in that little free time I have, I read books and studies in clinical and experimental linguistics and prepare myself for what the future hopefully has in store for me. Besides that, I am in the midst of writing the theoretical part of my bachelor’s thesis and, as always, somehow keeping up with school-work. I am going to have several big exams which are the cherry on top of three semesters of English and American literature courses – I will be more than busy in January.

Time seems to be running faster but I can’t really complain. I am managing to stay above academia in my new job and during evenings in the gym so that I have enough energy and zeal to keep focused and successfully finish everything. With that in mind, I bid you all goodbye until the next time.
