Graduation

It was Wednesday evening and had a hard time to fall asleep. Emotions of nervousness and excitement at the same time were mixing all together, as there was a big day ahead of me – my graduation, the end of those four years of hard work here at university.

The next day, after just a few hours of sleep, I took my guests from my children’s home around the beautiful university campus. I have to admit that I was really proud while I was showing them around, and I could clearly see that this university can amaze everyone. I could go there every day and never get enough of the view.

The ceremony took place in a spectacular hall which dates back to the nineteenth century. The pipe organ sound nicely illuminated the atmosphere, as its harmony penetrated the massive space of the hall. I got more and more excited as professors were announcing name after name and my turn was coming. In the end, I enjoyed my few seconds of fame (luckily without tripping), but before I managed to recover from the rapture, all the graduates were gathering outside in the yard, meanwhile a musician stood by a tree playing on bagpipes, so that we could be reminded of this joyful celebration.

It did not take that long before I started realising that one chapter of my life is closed and I still do not know what the new chapter will look like. I remember times, when I was doubting myself, as I was not sure I could make it to this point. Every year, a lot more was demanded from us students, but each time I convinced myself that with hard work and desire I could reach any goal that lies ahead. Over the years, I have built self-confidence, and I believe that anything is possible if you put a maximum effort into it. At the end of the hard work stood my dissertation, which was successfully presented at the HBES 2017 conference. I was also happy to hear that as a part of a larger project, my study might soon get officially published.

And here we go… I have graduated with first class degree, but what’s to come next? I have been admitted to masters in Educational studies at the University of Glasgow, which surely is a success to me. However, my financial situation has not been resolved yet, but I hope everything gets sorted out and I will be able to progress further in my studies. I have two months now to figure it out, which is a relatively short period of time, but I am still hopeful for a good outcome.

Since my co-operation with the Kellner Family Foundation ends at this point, I would like to greatly thank them for their support during all those twelve years of studies. I am truly grateful for being chosen by them to be one of their scholarship holders. As the name of their “Open Gate” School project suggests, they have opened a gate to me into a better world.
