Going forward

If you expected my life to change dramatically in the last year at the university, I will probably disappoint you. Since my last blog post I have managed to handle the majority of exams and hand in my dissertation, which took most of my time.

My voluntary work is still at its start, even though I started the training sessions several months ago. Who would have thought it will take that long, but unfortunately, there is a lack of women whom I could support in their recovery though peer mentoring service. Due to this, I decided to take part in other volunteering opportunities at the Phoenix Futures service, such as the group cognitive-behaviour therapy (CBT) or events organisation. Even though the original volunteering objective was different, I do indeed enjoy the CBT sessions. Last semester I took a clinical psychology module, which introduced me to CBT quite well, so it is very interesting to see this therapy in practice.  I also have to admit that the service users themselves inspire me a lot. I am really looking forward to volunteer more after my exams are done.

As I mentioned in my previous blog post, I wanted to apply for the Youth Studies postgraduate course at the University of Glasgow. Actually, I kept my promise and recently started the application. Although the deadline is at the end of August, I prefer sorting this out in advance, as the future will unfold sooner than later. Whatever the outcome, at least I will know what the next step in my life will be.

The last (unforeseen) change that happened since the last post was moving out of the flat I lived in. There were some construction issues, and so we were recommended to slowly look for a new flat. Right after the Christmas time I and my partner had to start looking for this new home, which quickly reminded me of how uneasy it is to find one, and how much time it takes to do everything around it. Looking for that flat was time-consuming, but cleaning the new home and unpacking was perhaps even more so. In fact, we spent one whole week settling in. We did not have internet and other distractions, so when I say whole week I literally mean that each day from the morning until we went to sleep we did nothing but this. Considering that we have been living abroad for some time, it is not surprising it took so long, as we have gathered loads of stuff that we are not prepared to get rid of yet. Despite all our efforts and time we had to put in it, we are happy with the flat, as it is really homely, just few steps from a park, and in the morning we don’t wake and up to the nearby school bell ringing and children shouting, which is a huge plus.

This post might be a bit shorter, but that is just because the biggest news will be known later this term. You might be looking forward to how my postgraduate studies application went, to reading about my graduation, volunteering progress, and perhaps my future plans.
