Fast pace continues

The current quarter has probably the hardest one for me yet.

But let’s start off with a description of something very pleasant: You might already know that I am a member of the hockey team here at Northwestern. In the beginning of January our team traveled to Florida for a four day trip in which we played two games against Florida Atlantic University. It was an amazing experience and the fact that we played in front of a decent-sized crowd at the actual practice rink of the Florida Panthers made it even better. We defeated the FAU Owls in both games and were therefore able to properly enjoy Miami after our games. We even had enough time to go out and experience the famous night life of south beach during one night. Well long story short, this was an amazing trip and a nice change of pace from the academic routine at Northwestern and from the polar weather of Evanston and Chicago.

In terms of academics I have had the opportunity to expand my academic interests and I am currently taking a couple courses that count as distributional requirements. I have decided to choose courses from different fields than the ones I currently focusing on and therefore I am currently enrolled in classes that teach about German music history and the stories of terrorism in 20th century Germany. I am also taking lectures in the field of biology and macroeconomics. I really enjoy all of my classes and especially the seminar about German terrorism which focuses on the RAF. It is interesting that the professor who teaches our seminar is not specializing in history but in comparative linguistics, therefore we focus a lot on the rhetoric used by Ulrike Meinhof in her pamphlets.

As I have mentioned in the beginning, this quarter has been rather challenging. Due to hockey, my work at admission office and several leadership roles in student groups on campus I have had very little time to prepare for midterms and quizzes, and even less time to sleep. Fortunately, the hockey season is now over and at the end of the quarter I will be leaving my position with the admission office so my schedule should be a little less dense. I will be searching for a position with a research team in our psychology department so wish me luck!

As of right now I only have a couple of final projects and exams ahead of me and after I’m done with those I will be able to enjoy almost two full weeks of spring break. However, to be completely honest I am really looking forward to my next quarter already. I’ve decided to “dig in” properly into my two majors and therefore I am taking five classes in economics and psychology. All of my classes should be taught by world-class professors so I’m really excited!
