Could it be Spring?

Christmas was over before you could say Father Christmas and another year is gone. I started 2016 traditionally by coming back to England and celebrating my birthday. Even after almost two months of being a twenty-year-old, I am still not used to writing a 2 instead of a 1 at the begining of my age, hopefully, I’ll learn soon.

With a new decade of my life, I decided to start learning a new language, so I can now say that “The snail’s name is Carl and he’s eating an apple” in swedish. I also discovered that all Björns is actually bears, as björn means a bear in swedish. I am enjoying my weekly two-hour lessons very much and am very curious, how much I can learn until May, when the course finishes.

January was probably the rainiest month I’ve experienced since I came to Coventry a year and a half ago. The rain was joined by really strong wind and you could meet a lot of lost and broken umbrellas lying around on the streets, as well as their former owners, trying to power through the weather. Despite the weather, I returned to archery. We recruited some begginers and they had to be taught how to build a bow, load it and shoot. It turns out I might be a better teacher than an archer, because some of them are already almost better than me, but I don’t really mind at all.

We had a big deadline to meet in the middle of February, same as last year. This time, we had to create our own story and illustrate it in any way we wanted. I decided to write a story of a dandelion, playing on the word and making it look a little bit like an actual lion. All of the illustrations were printed with potato stamps that I made, so that I could “recycle” and eat most of my materials after I was finished with the book. Considering it’s a children’s book, I also sewed a plush toy dande-lion and gave him a working name, Elvis. I am very happy with the result of the project and hope that my tutors will like it as well.

We got offered an opportunity to visit a few galleries in London last week and happily took it. London was beautiful, as was the weather, so it made for a beautiful day-trip, filled with gorgeous artwork in the Saachi gallery and the Royal Academy of Arts. The capital’s architecture and spirit get me every time, so I really enjoyed myself.

I am also enjoying the spring slowly creeping into Coventry’s air. You can hear birds singing, the weather is still freezing, but more or less sunny and fresh. The daffodils and trees are blooming and I can’t wait for proper spring to roll around and bring new good things.
