After the holidays

The holidays passed and I left the Czech Republic for the United Kingdom, keeping myself busy all the time. My first days back in London were somewhat special because of flat-hunting all over London. I must admit that even though I spent almost a year in London, I never saw as much of it as I did in these two weeks.

You get to meet a lot of people and see all kinds of places – the posh and the poor areas as well as the leading neighborhoods in terms of crime rate. The important thing is that, after some time, I finally found an accommodation.

My academic year started with me receiving a conflicting schedule – which, as older students tell me, is not quite unusual. I suppose someone thought I would be able to go to two different classes in two different buildings at a time, as Hermione Granger did. I must admit that I am not that good. Eventually I found my way around by attending a different seminar. That was a good decision as far as tuition goes – I did not miss out on anything – but I have yet to see how the officials will cope with this when checking my attendance. To be honest, I feel lucky for the scheduling conflicts because I attend a class led by a very inspiring teacher whose approach motivates me to do extra research and reading, which might not be the case with a different tutor.

For this year, I have decided to change my plans a bit and go back to programming. Why? Let’s just say that certain circumstances have led me to change the plans that I had made towards the end of last semester. Instead of being a full-time student with all the extracurricular activities around the campus, I will be a full-time programmer with a lot to do. This decision put my Leadership Framework Project, which I was working on and looking forward to introducing, on hold. But I guess at least I will be able to spend more time on it – and I will start it only when I have time enough to do it. The positive thing about this is that at least I will continue doing something on which I have already spent thousands of hours – which Malcolm Gladwell would say is a choice that can lead to success; we’ll see how that one goes.

There is one thing for sure this year – I am aiming at high grades, because this year counts towards the final grade. Last year was for getting to know how the system works; this year I will work the system.
