A successful ending to the freshers madness

As the year was coming to an end a lot of things began to change. Suddenly, handling work and studying for exams seemed to be much harder than before. As the exams began creeping up from behind the corner, stress knocked on the door along with it.

Suddenly, there was no parties, no fun, just hard studying sessions, where you would rather meet with your friends in the library than for drinks. Another fascinating phenomenon that came along with it is how crowded the library had gotten and how much of a bliss feeling it was when you would successfully find a free spot in the library. Also, the abuse of coffee and other stimulating substances became an everyday remedy for the terrible feeling that came along with the exams. Exam period is so stressful that you change your attitude towards most things. If you saw a group of drunk people any other time you would just want to join them, but suddenly you feel like they are godforsaken humans, who should pay for their inexplicable crimes.

Before my first exam I decided to take a trip to the beautiful city of Oxford to visit my brother and one friend of mine. We decided that instead of the usual hanging out and having fun, we would spend entire days in various libraries in Oxford. I must say it was both pleasant, with regards to exploring so many old beautiful buildings, but also very tiring and soon I wanted the exams to be over. When my first exam came, I was shaking. All the possible options ran through my head about what would happened if I failed and what I would do if the questions were bad. Thankfully, the first exam was neuroscience and I was sufficiently prepared for it, so there was nothing that could surprise me.

The exams were created in a way that half of the time (45mins) you would answer the multiple choice questions and then you either had 4 short questions to answer or you would pick 1 essay question from 4 options. I was not sure, which one of those was worse, but as I came to find out in my last exam, it was definitely the 4 short questions, because there was nothing that you could avoid if you didn't know the answer to it. Exam about developmental psychology and cognition and learning went pretty fine, but was am slightly worried about perception.

As to the social life, it is fair to say that I am happy that the madness in “Freshers year” has finally finished. I enjoyed plenty of lovely evening with people who had just started drinking and i'm happy they have finally gained some experience. I have a house arranged for next year with friends that I am really looking forward to living with.

All in all, the year has been a great success with so many new things learnt and people met. Such a valuable experience would not be possible without the help of my parents, my friends and I would also like to thank the Kellner Family Foundation for making this possible for me.

Reading, see you next year!
