Finále LO 2024

The 17th Edition of the Logical Olympiad Comes to a Close with the support of The Kellner Family Foundation

Finále LO 2024

The annual contest of sharp thinking, where learned knowledge does not determine the outcome, has reached its finale. The Logical Olympiad has completed its 17th edition. The competition is organized by Mensa Czech Republic, with The Kellner Family Foundation and Open Gate Gymnasium as long-time general partners. The finale took place in the House of Commons.

Participation in the Logical Olympiad set a new record this year. A total of 108,399 contestants from 3,729 schools entered the preliminary round. The smooth running of the competition was ensured by over 250 volunteers at various levels.

According to Tomáš Blumenstein, Vice President of Mensa Czech Republic, it is positive that interest in the Olympiad continues to grow, and that what started as a small regional contest has evolved into a prestigious national competition and, at the same time, the largest global Mensa project for children and youth.

The competition, which focuses on logical thinking and finding new, unconventional solutions, also serves as a screening tool for discovering previously overlooked talents.

Support for education, which the Kellner Family Foundation has long been committed to, takes various forms. In addition to helping disadvantaged children, we see support for gifted students as essential for the future prosperity of our country. Thanks to the Logical Olympiad, hidden talents are discovered each year—talents that the Czech education system might otherwise miss—and these students are given support for their development, whether through scholarships at Open Gate Gymnasium or later during their studies at foreign universities.

This year's Logical Olympiad finale was held in three categories. In Category A (grades 3–5), the winner was Štefan Lupač from Horníkova Primary School and Kindergarten in Brno. In Category B (grades 6–9 and corresponding years of multi-year gymnasiums), the first place went to Jaroslav Pleticha from Chodovická Gymnasium in Prague. In Category C (students of all types of secondary schools up to 20 years old), the best result was achieved by Mikuláš Jandík from the Christian Doppler Gymnasium in Prague.

In addition to the above categories, the Logical Olympiad also has a section for younger schoolchildren and preschoolers, and for the first time, it offers an opportunity for adults of any age to test their logical thinking abilities.
