Traveling by bike

They have just canceled my flight again. I could not go home in February because of my tonsilitis and not even in April - because of Covid-19. My airline sent me an email in Dutch stating that they were canceling my flight again.

On the positive note, after a month packed with online exams from psychology, strategic management, academic skills, economics and sociology, I successfully finished my first year!

All my friends from Tilburg are gradually leaving for their countries and I am trying to come up with what to do in July in Tilburg. I will probably travel to the Czech Republic in a month by train via Berlin or by car as my intention to hitchhike home was strictly forbidden by my parents. Until then, I will be spending the summer by working, doing online internships in HR and marketing and exploring the local lakes - by bike.

Did you know that Tilburg is surrounded by beautiful nature? You can reach forests, canals or beautiful lakes by bike within twenty minutes. Since the weather was really beautiful last week, many students decided to still stay in the city. I also took advantage of the weather and I went swimming with my friends in local lakes. Some lakes are crowded with people and groups of young people gather on the lakeshore in the evenings. However, there are also lakes that no one knows about, so you have the whole lake just for yourself. You can also swim in our local harbour! A nearby national park famous for its sand dunes is also reachable by bike. Honestly, it is so beautiful here during the summer.

I must admit that if I ever move out of the Netherlands, I will miss cycling terribly. This year's accomodation provided me with the opportunity to explore nearly every street of Tilburg as I lived far from everything and everyone. However, I have am moving to new room in the middle of summer and, following the example of the Dutchies, I will make the whole move on my bike. Even though bikes have found a special place in my heart, I can't wait to be able to travel in other way than by a bike. I am looking forward to being able to rely on flights and take the train to the next town without worrying. For now, I'm simply looking forward to going home.
