Thinking about my thesis

The holidays ended, and I got back to Bath itching for new subjects and stories. This year, I’m living with the same flatmates but in a different house. It suits me just fine, and I am happy to finally be living the traditional English student way. What I enjoy most about the shared flat is that we do basically everything (cooking, parties, cleaning and studying) together.

The first semester will be, or rather is, the more difficult one in the second year. I have to finish a few big essays and presentations and prepare for a lecture that I will be reading together with a schoolmate by December. I am also focusing on my placement, which is basically an internship that I have to find and work 140 hours. As for weather, it’s better here than in the Czech Republic. It didn’t rain here as much as it did in the Czech Republic this summer. The sun still shines beautifully sometimes, but it’s getting colder, with temperatures ranging between 14 and 6 degrees Celsius.

As I said in my previous post, my subjects this year include Witchcraft. It’s by far my favorite subject. We get to talk about the territory of what is now the Czech Republic quite often during the lessons. This semester, we are focusing on the witchcraft trials of the 16th and 17th centuries, and I have to admit that this is incredible. Next week, I am to hand in a larger project based on my research into one of the trials that ended with the burning of 26 women and 4 girls. I am also currently starting to consider the topic of my thesis. I would love to focus on either witchcraft or the history of magicians in the 17th and 18th centuries. But I still have plenty of time left for that, so there’s no hurry.

“Freshers’ Week” took place this year, just like in previous years. During the week, all first year students get to know about the city of Bath and all of the local places and sights. I am in my second year this year, so I guided students through the town and shared with them valuable insights about Bath and living in it. It reminded me of how fast time flies and made me realize that I would love to go one year back in time and enjoy my first year all over again.
