The greatest adventure

I recall that just a few months ago I was panicking as I had no clue what I would be doing after graduation.

Naturally, I was preparing for the worst – what if I am not accepted into any Master’s programmes? What if I can’t even find a job? What do I do then? But we all probably go through this phase. Now, I am home in the Czech Republic, in my room which is packed with the boxes I had shipped from my flat in Aberystwyth. I managed to fit four years of my life into one suitcase and four carton boxes. It is only now that I am beginning to fully realise that my adventures in Wales have come to an end and, quite frankly, it is starting to weigh on me. After all, it is incredibly difficult to say goodbye to the place and the people that I have grown to care for very deeply; to the point that I will always call Wales my second home. There, I experienced countless adventures and met some pretty amazing people along the way. People really are the most pivotal factor in shaping our experiences and impressions, and I think I was extremely lucky to have met wonderful people in both personal and professional life.

But now I have to start preparing for the next adventure – possibly the greatest yet – a Master’s programme in the States. Eventually, it has all gone well and, out of the universities to which I have been accepted to, I have decided to attend Harvard (it was no brainer though really). At Harvard, I am going to study a Master’s in Law with around 180 other students from all across the world. I plan to focus on international law and human rights law. I would also like to weave in the study of the general theory of criminal law, psychology, and neuroscience – latest studies show that some people may be predisposed to committing crimes as they can possess the so-called “criminal gene” in their DNA and this gene may be triggered by certain stimuli in the environment. It is certainly controversial, but a very interesting theory which has the potential to revolutionise the field.

Finally, I would like to take this opportunity to thank the KELLNER FAMILY FOUNDATION for their support during my studies at Aberystwyth. I am certain that without their help I would not have had the chance to successfully complete my studies in Wales and get into Harvard.
