The Graduation

In mid-May, I turned in my final economics exam, presented my last art project, passed a Portuguese interview and submitted my bachelor thesis. By that point, I have officially completed all the prerequisites to earn a bachelor's degree at Grinnell College. Over the next two days, enthusiastic parents from all over the United States and around the world started flooding the campus, waiting for the graduation ceremony.

Monday was cloudy and it drizzled since early morning. Yet, there was nothing that could kill the omnipresent enthusiasm as all the candidates for bachelor degree walked down the isle of smiling and clapping faculty. After few speeches, we finally got to the moment that everyone has eagerly been waiting for: the handing over of the diplomas. I was eleventh to last, but my time has come as well. There I was, walking across the stage and receiving my diploma from the hands of the President of the College. Michaela Gelnarová, Bachelor of Arts in International Relations and Communication.

Currently, I plan on staying in Europe for some time. I will explore future career options in policy making through internships in order to find a specific area I would like to work in more permanently. After two or three years into my career, I would like to attend another university and get my master’s degree.

Finally, I would like to thank The Kellner Family Foundation for their support throughout my time at Grinnell College. It would have never been possible for me to attend this institution without their help and I am forever grateful for putting their trust and finances into my education.
