Sun? No! Just rain and books…

I had just barely gotten used to the new climate after arriving in Scotland (though, honestly, the winter in Scotland was not very different from the Czech winter, with boring 5 degrees Celsius and next to no snow), and now the Spring is coming - we all have been waiting for it and for all the fun it brings.

I had just barely gotten used to the new climate after arriving in Scotland (though, honestly, the winter in Scotland was not very different from the Czech winter, with boring 5 degrees Celsius and next to no snow), and now the Spring is coming – we all have been waiting for it and for all the fun it brings.

But alas – as with every year, we were wrong this year too, and more nights in the library was all we got instead of more days in the sunshine.

But lest I exaggerate, of course there is time for fun too. For example, I went to Glasgow with the university’s tennis club in mid-February, to see a Davis Cup match that had a slightly patriotic taste to it for me – as Slovakia’s national team bravely opposed the UK’s tennis players. Bravely yet unsuccessfully; happily, all ten Slovak fans who came to root for their national team seemed to take the loss as true sportsmen, and they had a great time at the Davis Cup along with the rest of the arena.

My studies didn’t disappoint me this semester, offering me a truckload of opportunities to realize that there is always something to learn: History, this time focusing on pre-war Europe; Comparative Political Science, a subject as entertaining as its title suggests; and finally Spanish where I have finally progressed somewhat in terms of both grammar and communication. Group Presentation is a refreshing new feature for this semester, but thanks to my solid foundations from Open Gate, this is not especially difficult for me; and unlike my schoolmates, I actually enjoy it, more or less. I have also taken some of my Spanish and Political Science exams; essays and, of course, final exams in the summer lie ahead now.
