Studying Master’s degree in Bath

When I discovered the possibility to study a postgraduate course abroad, once again provided by The Kellner Family Foundation, I have felt the same feeling just like these wonderful three years back, when I was applying for the undergraduate course here in Bath. The feeling simply goes beyond words and I am Very grateful for having the opportunity to be and study here.

I came back to Bath after the refreshing summer holidays to take the MA course in Educational Leadership & Management. My studies of an MA course were, once again, made possible thanks to TKFF, and I hereby Thank You for making this happen. I am going to be doing two years course, which should prepare me for the leading position within educational institutions; furthermore I will get my training in educational management, which will also be useful in my future job. I have been looking for a new place to stay for some while now and I must say it is not as easy to find one as it used to be when I was an undergraduate student.

My course is split into several subjects, each in one way or another focusing on the different aspects of educational leadership and management. This at first might seem a bit misleading but it really is quite straightforward. The first term of this academic year will focus upon the theoretical background of leadership in practice theories. This will be supported by several foreign professors coming to our university to give talks on the topic and to share their valuable professional experiences. Amongst these are some of the most influential authors and theoreticians of the educational industry.

My study group is made of only three people, of which I am the youngest one. Nevertheless, this comes to my advantage as I can always address them with any kind of issue and they always offer a kind advice supported by their own professional experience. The amount of reading we get for MA is incomparable to BA, on the other hand it makes me prepare better for each class and to really get into the subject matter.

Furthermore, I am going to start my leadership work experience fairly soon, which I am very excited for. Amongst other study duties I will have, I am going to have to start thinking about my thesis in next to no time, which is something I am looking forward to very much. I am thinking of focusing at the topic of the ‘insufficient amount of reflection on student’s exam/test performance and ways we could improve on this’, or somewhere around these lines. I will yet have to decide whether I want to focus upon the Czech educational system or the English one. However, no matter which one I will go for they will both present me with the same issue and different approaches taken by the educational officials in each country.  I could also focus on both Czech Republic and England and then compare the two, however, I will tell you more about this in my next blog entry.

I would like to wish everyone a Happy New Year full of surprises and new experiences.
