Starting out

There are many things I want to do and have been putting off for ages. Things like having the experience of baking sourdough bread over lockdown. I've been counting the waves of the pandemic go by, from the first through to the second… It was only during the tail end of the third wave that I finally asked my friend for some sourdough starter and decided to crack on. The results? Well it's good, but what makes it even better is that it finally justifies all the time I spent thinking about it!

What did I learn? Well for starters (pun intended), I should have done this way earlier! I decided to apply this mindset to other things as well.

I got in touch with a couple of my classmates who started a tutoring agency. I now teach Maths instead of working at a café part-time. Don't get me wrong I still love coffee, but it wasn't sustainable to do more than one shift a week considering the amount of work I need to be putting in to my degree.

I've become rusty at highschool maths. As if my starter was a wee bit over-fermented and made the (brain) dough rise too slowly. It was a real struggle at first but I really enjoy it now and think it's a great way to make money alongside studies. Having teaching experience from my time in London from two years back is helping me stay on top of things.

Planning lessons is fun and going back to Maths problems I can easily solve is great and all, but there's nothing like finally making someone understand a given concept. It's like taking freshly baked bread out of the oven.
