No more noodles, rice, chopsticks or 汉字

It is May already, and that means one thing only - exam period and the end of my staying in Hong Kong. Asia has really surprised and amused me, thought me many new things, and most probably has also changed me. I had been lucky enough to have some Asian travel experience, which helped me to find out more about some local cultures and people, I have tried many new things – worms and chicken feet included, I have survived the whole year without the great Czech cuisine, I have learnt not only to read Chinese language but also drink Chinese tea but most importantly I have met many amazing new friends. In other words - exchange is not a year in a life; it's a Life in a year.

I am trying to enjoy the last few weeks I still have here in Hong Kong as much as I can. My new challenge was to do every day at least one new activity or visit new place. Therefore it is not unusual for me to take my Chinese textbook or Sociology notes and instead of visiting the library just climb one of the hills around the University. That allows me to study and at the same time enjoy the atmosphere and the view over Hong Kong for one more -and probably last – time.

What I most like about Hong Kong is it two faces, one being full of nature, lovely sceneries and hills and without any people and second being the complete opposite, cosmopolitan modern city with many very tall building that will often stop you from seeing the sky, and many – really many – people, that will often stop you from doing anything.

There are things I will definitely miss when I come back to Europe, among those it would be for example the amazing food, street food snacks, always changing prices and mainly the “Asian element” and culture. This is maybe not so prominent here in Hong Kong, but here too, you can experience it. Furthermore it is not far away or expensive to visit any of the “more Asian” countries, such as Malaysia or Philippines.

It was amazing year, full of new experience and memories and I am sure I will make good use of those experiences not only in my University life back in Aberdeen but also in my personal life and future.
