No Boredom in Sight

So far, winter quarter has been more intensive as far as culture goes. Apart from many other shows at many different times, the annual Dolphin Show took place at the end of January on campus. Every year, it is the biggest student-produced musical in the United States; this year, the producers picked My Fair Lady. Upon viewing the show, I must say that I was positively shocked. The acting, costumes, sets, props, they even had a live orchestra, everything was on an amazing level. And we are talking a student-run show, not Broadway, here! As for other extracurricular activities, I have now actually started writing articles for one of the two satirical newspapers on campus, the Northwestern Flipside, and they have elicited positive reactions so far. In other areas than culture and satire, I am not exactly bored, either.

Moving on to my education life here, it continues to be varied and keeps going more or less as planned. This quarter, I am busy with mathematics, Spanish, introduction to psychology (pretty fascinating), and finally the rhetoric of popular culture (a class under the auspices of my very own School of Communication). In those lectures with the very shrewd professor Rein, who is not only the lifelong partner-in-crime of the father of modern marketing, Philip Kotler, but also an incredibly experienced entertainment and communication industry veteran, we talk about myriads of things all the way from place marketing to maintaining high visibility. A part of the course is a group project, which is turning out to be a challenge in its own right. However, when else do you get the opportunity to study the Backstreet Boys and One Direction from a scientific point of view, right?

Ahead of me, there are only a few more weeks to come, and we'll see what happens after that. One thing is sure, though: I am not bored.
