Next semester – done

Today, I just realized that I just finished 3/12 semesters of my medical studies So how has my life been for the last few months? Well, maybe there have been a few extraordinary moments (for me), which I want to share with you.

First of all, I found out that to study medicine is not as easy as it seemed to me last academic year: For a first time I visited a dissection room and I had to spend hours dissecting corpses to be able to study the human anatomy.

I can for sure tell you that I’ve made two new really nice friends: Anatomy and Physiology. We are spending all the time together. We are planning a big “party” called Modul A Exam for this June. Therefore we will spend even more time together to feel prepared for our big day. And if I succeed, they will introduce to me their third friend – Pathophysiology next year!

I got an academic scholarship for an excellent study results during my first year of medical studies.

Quite randomly I participated at the 5th endoscopy day in Prague hospital IKEM. As an only student there I got the opportunity to learn more about endoscopy (mainly POEM – treating achalasia) together with the best Czech endoscopists. On the screen was projected the endoscopy-operation theater (so called therapeutic endoscopy), which was performed by Prof. Haruhiro Inoue at an operating theatre.

I’ve also visited my primary school and introduced schoolchildren to Open Gate. I explained them that their dream to study at such a school can become a reality.

I have also decided to study Norwegian – and I therefore recently signed up for a language course, which starts on the 27th of February.  Besides this I’ve finally got my driving licence, and I’ve started to learn how to play tennis which unfortunately showed up to be a sport in which I am not talented at all. I still believe that after some years of practicing, I will still be playing at a beginner’s level.

I am still really interested in medicine – I hope it will last as long as possible.
I successfully did all my exams so far and I got one free week before the next semester will take place. As my grandmother said: “You got a few weeks to breathe out and breathe in.” I think that I’ve only been exhaling lately, and it’s finally time for me to inhale before my next semester will start again.
