My first month in New York

I am now more than one month into my studies in New York. It has been an adventure! As every newbie, I would initially get lost in the school and dorm buildings – which are Manhattan skyscrapers. I had to arrange for everything quickly; the school kicked off on September 9, but since the university recommended me for participation in the Premio Paganini International Violin Competition in Genoa, Italy, having passed the pre-selection process, I flew back to Europe on September 13.

I cannot begin to tell you how many forms I completed and how many offices and teachers I saw, asking for their signatures on various applications. And I was still trying to practice, as is customary prior to a competition, for at least eight hours a day. When I came back after two weeks, studies were in full swing and I was simply amazed in some of the classes. We constantly write tests, so I know exactly where I am at. Let me just say that I am definitely not bored and that I am very very busy.

My greatest pleasure is major subject classes with Glenn Dicterow and concerts at the Carnegie Hall and Avery Fischer Hall where Mr. Dicterow usually takes me with him. In the first month alone, I saw and heard (both in concert and in rehearsal) the most famous violinists, I. Perlman and P. Zuckerman, with the New York Philharmonic, and cello player Yo-Yo Ma with the Vienna Philharmonic.

And on Wednesday, October 20, I am flying to New Mexico to play two concerts with the Santa Fe Pro Musica Chamber Orchestra.
