Last school year ever

I can only briefly sum up my last summer holiday. First two weeks I had to fulfil my obligatory gynaecology and obstetrics practice here in Prague. Right after that I went to Norway and stayed there for the whole summer. I had 3 weeks of practice at a Norwegian hospital – 1 week at the oncologic + palliative care department and 2 weeks at the department of internal medicine.

6th year, it means the last year of medical school is composed of 4 main state exams. The first one is from paediatrics and is supposed to be one of the most demanding, lasts only 4 weeks and right after that is an exam composed of 160 questions. I knew the questions/topics in advance and therefore decided to start studying for it during the last week of my summer holiday. It reminded me of the last year at Open Gate where I did my Extended Essay – High level biology research during the summer holiday. Luckily I passed my paediatrics exams few days ago and got an advice from the head of paediatric department to specialize in paediatrics. Well, we will see where I will end up one day.

The other state exams are from gynecology and obstetrics, general surgery + orthopedics and the very last exam in my life will be from internal medicine. The idea that in only a few months from now I will hopefully become a doctor and so the thought of one of my biggest dreams will come true makes me so excited.  After all the struggles and hours, days, weeks, months and years with studying, I will finally be done with my “student life”.

Regarding my big dreams, there is another dream I am planning to fulfill during the next summer. My husband and I are going to Africa to climb Kilimanjaro. I can’t wait to push my limits even further and go out of my comfort zone. While studying at medical school I realized that I need something like a balance between psychological stress and physical stress, it’s the only way which helps me to manage all the exams and my daily stress. If I fulfill my workout plans and study plans it gives me the feeling of achievement and its what matters. But it’s extremely important to mention that I would never manage to have the “healthy balance” in my life without my loving husband and amazing family.
