In this academic year, 61 university students have received financial grants

The family foundation of Mrs Renáta Kellnerová and Mr Petr Kellner, The Kellner Family Foundation, has accepted 61 students to the Universities project in this academic year. It grants them funds to pay the costs incurred during their enrolment at primarily foreign universities.

Over the ten years that the Foundation has been sponsoring Czech university students, it has accepted 177 grantees to its programme. Most often, these students study engineering subjects, natural sciences, and humanities in bachelor’s courses at universities in the UK, the Czech Republic, and the US. The grantees are enrolled at universities including the University of Cambridge, the University of Oxford, and Yale University.

  • The Foundation accepted 61 grantees in the Universities project in the 2019/2020 academic year.

  • 177 grantees received financial grants over the ten years for which the Foundation has been sponsoring Czech students to study at, predominantly foreign, universities.

  • Every year, the Foundation disburses around CZK 10 million to the grantees for paying tuition fees and other costs incurred during university.

“We prioritise bachelor students of medicine, science, engineering or economics. Our grantees also include promising musicians,” said Petra Dobešová, on the Board of Trustees of The Kellner Family Foundation. “When selecting grantees we also look at how their experience acquired abroad can benefit the Czech Republic. It is really important for us,” added Petra Dobešová.  In this academic year, the Foundation accepted 13 new university students, while 48 grantees continue their studies in the second or a higher year. The single largest number of students are studying in the UK at the University of Cambridge, the University of Oxford, and another 15 universities; in the US, they are enrolled at five universities, including Yale University; whilst some are enrolled at universities in the Czech Republic, Austria, the Netherlands, China and Germany. They gain experience through studying medical sciences, often transcending into chemistry and biochemistry or biotechnology disciplines; engineering subjects, IT, humanities, and social sciences are also popular. The Kellner Family Foundation has posted the profiles of all grantees on the Universities website. In addition, there are also blogs on the website detailing the grantees’ impressions and experiences.  On the Universities projectThe Kellner Family Foundation provides financial grants to Czech students, graduates from any secondary school who continue their education in a bachelor’s course primarily at a foreign university. Applicants for the Universities grants submit their applications to the Foundation’s Board of Trustees by the end of April every year. The Foundation’s Board of Trustees decides on grants, making selections based on recommendations from an expert panel. In the second round of the selection process, the panel meets with the selected students for personal interviews.  The Kellner Family FoundationWe believe that the path to success runs through high-quality education. This is why the family foundation of Mrs Renáta Kellnerová and Mr Petr Kellner has opted for the support of education to be the theme of its core activities. The Foundation wants the largest possible number of children and young people to have access to high-quality education and schools to develop their talents.
