How to NOT go crazy

I dare to say, that having a prom night feels like the best evening of our entire life. Lately, I have seen a photo from my prom night. In the picture I was walking by the red carpet, smiling to every side of the hall. At the same time, I can remember, that it was very strange feeling to wear a sash with the sign 'Graduate', even though I haven't done any of the exams yet. Everything was in the near future. Also, I can remember how nervous, obnoxious and scared I was. The only reason why I was like this, was that I didn't believe to myself. At the end of the day, I've managed it all, moreover with very good results, so I could continue with my studies.

It is actually very enjoyable feeling to realise, that I get all the way here. I am sitting in my room, signing up the theme of my Bachelor's thesis. In the following months, I am going to prepare for so far the hardest exam- Degree examination. I have decided to go for the summer appointment, so that I can jump into the holidays without any bigger responsibilities.

Three years at the university and also eight years at Open gate gave me a lot of important things. In my blog, I would like to share the most important ones with you, future graduates and university students.

Firstly, it is important to believe in yourself. When I have attempted first classes at my uni, a lot of people were scaring me, that some subjects will be the worse experience in my entire life. I have started to panic and stopped believing in myself automatically. Automatically, I have took over the negative experiences of others and almost absorbed them. I went to the exam extremely nervous, so that I even wanted to go away without any try. After the first test, I was standing in the hallway, listening to my classmates, that were talking about the right answers. It seemed to me, that all my answers were wrong. That feeling persisted until I have seen in our information system, that my test have been marked, and I got B. When I've seen it I thought, that the professor must be wrong. No, he wasn't. I got it!

This moment was very important for my future studies, because I've started to believe into myself. After all, you have to realise, that the only person you can rely on is yourself. Nobody is going to write the test, or the Bachelor's theses instead of you. Believe that you're intelligent, independent and able to do everything you want.

Another important thing, that can help you is to trust to your professors. I caught myself very often to say “And how is this information relevant to my specialization?”. No worries, everything has its special importance, even though it doesn't seems like on the first sight.

I will never forget about how mad I was, that I had to study Law and Czech political system, even when my specialization is Economy. Now I know, that its very important to have at least some base, even from such subjects. Believe me, that when you realise this, every professional article and homework, is now going to be easier for you to do.

Obviously, time-management is also very important. Luckily, this is the thing I have learned at Open gate quite naturally.  It is very important to lay out your time effectively, so that you can devote enough time, to every obligation you have. It is quite visible, if you inflate your homework, or if you spend significantly less time for exam preparation, than your classmates. You are entering university as an adult human being and the teachers are going to treat you this way. There is no place for such an excuse as “The wifi didn't work tonight and my dog ate my exercises”. You are going to experience strict rules, that are settled and if you're not gonna follow them, you're  definitely going to fail.

By that, I am not trying to say that you have to lie in books all day. Quite contrary, I think that social life is very important thing, that shouldn't be neglected. Moreover, university open up some new door for you. You will meet new friends, working opportunities, favorite cafés and pubs. It's not from the point, to go out from time to time and socialize. In my specialization I often use my experiences and knowledge from some real life situations, that actually happened to me.

Social and personal life is important for gaining new experiences and for not to go crazy.

In addition, try to be more active with regards to school events and community services. At CEVRO institut we have opportunities to help with the preparations of social events, help in our library or in the Study departement. You can engage in various programs that may help you and other students. It is very nice to help someone, and I bet that you're going to have a good feeling. Moreover, you can mix the social life with the educational one, therefore you may combine pleasant with helpful, which is always good.

If you don't like such things  I would definitely recommend you to try some internship. I think it is important to have some practice and experience in almost every working field. In high positions it's necessary, therofe its the right time to apply for it now. I personally applied for an internship in the Ministry of the Environment and this experience gave me a lot. Moreover it's another perfect thing, that you may write to your CV.

Long story short, study smartly. Don't be intimidated by others, believe in yourself, prepare for school intensively and live your best life. You can do it. Good luck!
