Half way done!

I can finally say that I've fulfilled more than half of my medical studies. My last examination period ended in February, and I realized that I have got 2 years and 4 months left. During my studies I didn’t believe that I would make it so far.

I still remember my first year at medial school – I though that biophysics and organic chemistry were the most difficult subjects ever. In the second year I was almost sure that anatomy and physiology were going to end my carrier and the third year being even worse when everybody were failing all pathology. The fourth year has so far been the best semester during my studies, with really interesting subjects and no worries about failing (at least less worries). But there are two more years which will be extremely difficult – 5th and 6th year where I would have to pass 6 state exams before fulfilling my dream of become a MUDr.

But back to the 4th year, at the beginning of the year I was lucky and finished my exams quite early. It means that I had three weeks off, and I spent this time in a small village names Lærdal in the region called "Sogn and the Fjords" in Norway.  This place is famous due to the longest road tunnel in the world (24,5 km), which is in 3 parts illuminated with special light resembling polar light. I fulfilled part of my summer practice for this year at the local hospital in Lærdal, at the orthopedics department – one of the best orthopedic departments in Norway where they have patients travelling from the whole country in order to get hip and knee replacements (prosthetic surgery). It was really nice to have practice at this hospital, all the staff was so kind and helpful. There is one nice tradition in Norwegian hospitals which is missing in the Czech Republic: every day around 15 o’clock, the nurses are serving coffee and cakes to the patients. I think that only the smell of coffee and freshely baked pastry is healing, at least psychologicaly.

Nowadays I am back in Prague, studying neurology. It is really interesting branch of medicine, but also quite complicated and difficult. Fortunatelly next exams are at the end of May.
