Beginnings

Almost three months have passed since I started living in Tilburg. And even though such a short time has passed, I dare say that I know all the neighborhoods of this city better than any other first-year student. Due to Tilburg's disastrous housing situation, few students lived in tents or bungalows outside the city for the first month. As for me, I managed to live in four parts of the city: in the north, at the university, in the south and now, after three relocations, I write this blog from my room in the western part of the city. Thanks to constantly moving, however, I had the opportunity to meet countless good people, so I can truly confirm that every cloud has a silver lining.

Tilburg University surprised me quite pleasantly. At Human Resource Studies: People Management, there are 40 students from all over the world. There are 20 of us in my study circle, but we attend three other study programs. So if you want to complain about sociology, which we had 2-3 times a week in the first semester, then make sure that the neighbor just does not study sociology at the moment. Furthermore, my first semester consisted of tutorials (small groups of 15 people) of academic skills, followed by hours of Organization Studies and HR. My second semester has just started with the introduction to statistics. I have to say that the pace of all subjects is unbelievable: what we have learned at the grammar school for six months has to be learned here in two months. I spend a lot of my time in the university library.

I also decided to become an active member of our study association INPUT. Right now, I meet with the Committee on International Integration every week and we try to involve all students in my field in the activities we organize. We have recently organized a big event for Dutch culture, and another event will be dedicated to bringing together cultures. In addition, I am also an active member of AEGEE - the European Student Forum on Active Citizenship, Cultural Exchange, Education, Traveling and Working with NGOs. This year, I will work with my committee on a large exchange of AEGEE members with two countries. Together with AEGEE, for example, I hitchhiked to Brussels where the organization has its headquarters.

Tilburg is not the most beautiful and lively city in the Netherlands, but it is renowned for its sport. Even though physical education lessons have never been my strength, I still decided to buy a year-round membership in our sports center. So far I have attended yoga lessons and proper breathing (very helpful during the exam). I'm also thinking about a monthly bouldering course. And if it's not raining on Mondays, I go to tennis lessons. So if you ever visit Tilburg, first have a look at the street where Van Gogh lived and then definitely visit our sports center.

I am extremely glad that I chose this university town for my Bachelor's degree. Despite all the hardships of living, demanding study, continuous rainfall combined with a few minutes of sunlight a day, I'm more than sure that starting to study at Tilburg University is a good decision. After all, Tilburg has a lot to offer. Today I am going to participate in a psychological experiment, then I will go to the city for a seminar on mindfulness and in the evening we will go with my friends to the sauna. Next week I will be recruited for the school choir, so keep your fingers crossed.
