Bachelor degree at my finger tips

The last term in York was very hectic and stressful because the final exams were quickly approaching. I came back to York after very short Spring break and begun the intensive prep for all my six exams, which I had to undertake in a time span of just three weeks.

During the summer term, we don’t have usual lectures but only review lectures where lecturers go over the material thought in one term in just an hour. I had two review sessions per module and then I had to count on self-study and the notes I made during the year.

I have spent those last two months of school on the York library. Every morning, I made myself a lunch box and prepped several snacks for the day and then headed to one of the many York libraries. I studied according to a plan that I have made before in order to make sure that I manage to learn everything I need. It is not possible to choose the date of your exam in the UK so I could only hope not to get two three hour exams in one day. When the university published the exam timetable, I was happy that I didn’t get any two exams on one day but it still wasn’t the best timetable since I had five exams in just a week and three of those exams were right after each other. It was vital to prepare all the revision material well before the exams because there was not time for last minute revision in those few hours between the exams.

After several weeks of preparation, I was anxious to get the exams over since sitting in the library all day was very tiring and monotonic. My first exams was Microeconomics where I did surprisingly well. This set the tone for the rest of the exam period, I wasn’t stressed anymore and everything went according to the plan. Just few days after I finished my very last Bachelor’s exam, I already headed home. As I was packing all my things, I soon realised that I have more stuff than it’s allowed to take on the plane so I was forced to send one box by post.

While most of my classmates were celebrating the end of Bachelor studies, I started work. This year, I decided to take on an internship and AirBank a.s, in order to gain valuable work experience in the banking sector. I joined the team Innovation and new banking products, where I worked whole June on designing a new feature for internet and mobile banking. Thanks to the awesome support of the AirBank team, I felt really welcomed and we did a great job on the project. I hope that when I open my internet banking before Christmas, I will see this new feature implemented. I had the opportunity to discover the behind the scenes of a bank and meet all the different teams during the internship, which was incredibly valuable experience, which will hopefully help in the future to find the right career path.

Before I will start looking for a job, I would like to finish my university studies with a Master’s degree. After much deliberation, I applied to London School of Economics and Political Science to study MSc Economics and Management and I successfully received a conditional offer.

One of the conditions of my offer was a successful completion of Bachelor studies, which I fulfilled. I was very anxious when the university was announcing the results but my hard work was rewarded with “First class” and an amazing average of 75%.

I will be putting on the famous square hat on my head in just two weeks and I will finally receive the Bachelor of Science diploma in Economics from the University of York. I am having tears in my eyes just because of writing these lines because I really fell in love with York and I will always come back. All these unforgettable memories were made possible only because of the great support of the Kellner Family Foundation that supported me throughout these three years and without which I would never be able to study in England. I will be forever grateful and I thank you from the bottom of my heart.
