Assembling a mosaic of majors

I got heavy-handed on communications courses this quarter: all four of my classes are in the School of Communication, including Public Speaking, Communication and Technology, and Theories of Mediated Communication.

Along with the fourth course, in which I'm not a student but I assist the professor by leading project groups, called Rhetoric of Popular Culture, these four classes make up the curriculum of my winter quarter and they all count towards my degree in Communication Studies.

Why? Two of the aforementioned courses are major requirements and it made sense to take them sooner rather than later, and the rest pretty much arose logically out of the scheduling - everything else that would have made sense to take posed a time conflict with one of the requirements. Actually, I am not all that far from completing the minimum degree requirements in Communication Studies, which is why it's time to kick off what we could call a Phase 2 of my undergraduate college education.

Starting next quarter (now also sealed by the fact that I registered for the respective classes last week), I will have to shift my focus much more towards economics and take about one course each quarter in Integrated Marketing Communications if I'm serious about my tripod-plan of Communication Studies-Economics-IMC.

Does that whole enumeration sound a little confusing to you? I can't blame you, to be honest. It is challenging to keep control of two majors and one certificate trying to graduate on time, but according to all sorts of academic advisers and professors that I mentioned my plan to, I'm on the right track to be able to do all of it.

Due to the fact that the required classes I am taking don't rank among the most difficult ones, I finally have time to hear myself think from time to time and to focus on my other commitments, such as my work as a chair of marketing in the International Student Association. I also try to do my best in taking advantage of all the amazing opportunities that Northwestern offers to all those willing to put in the work to apply. Thanks to these great offerings, I am well taken care of in terms of culture, going for example to see Chicago the Broadway musical for a subsidized price of $20, or a free visit of some of the top Chicago museums, but also in terms of travel - I got selected to represent the School of Communication on a Spring Break trip to our Qatar campus in Education City, Doha. We're traveling in three weeks and I can't wait. Wish me luck!
