2012 – A year full of changes!

Great Britain. A country in which I have spent two years of my life, and to which I had to say good bye by the end of June. I finished my studies there after which I had to leave to a partner university in France, where I will spend the next two years in order to successfully finish my bachelor’s degree.

For a successful completion of this four years program, we are required to have at least two internships during our studies (a summer one and a 6 months one). I tried to find such an internship in the Czech Republic so I could gain new knowledge and new experience. I got lucky and I had the opportunity to work for an international group called Holcim, where I had the position of an executive assistant to the CEO and where I had the chance to work on different kinds of projects. When this internship finished, I left straight away to France to continue my studies.

France – a western developed country with a rich culture and nice inhabitants. That is true, but only until the point, when you don’t want to stay here for more than 2 months. If you do, you should expect bureaucracy everywhere, mistrust in solvency of people from the Eastern bloc or endless lunch breaks in all institutions. However, if you are able to get over all of these constraints, you can start fully concentrate on the studies, which are very much different to the Anglo-Saxon world.

I am spending almost all of my time at school – most of the classes last for three hours usually from 8am until 7pm. During the evening we are working on group projects and afterwards we can do our individual homework. Everything is in French only, whit which I still have some problems from time to time, but I do believe that during the few next months my French will be on the same level as my English at this moment is.

As I already mentioned at the beginning of this article, one of the conditions to successfully graduate is to have a 6 months internship. I got very lucky as I got accepted by an international enterprise in Paris, where I will start working in January. And how is the life of an employee in France? That will be the subject of my next article...
