Welcome Seniors!

I spent most of my summer in Africa, where I organized first of my own projects. Now summer is gone and the start of my final year in Scotland has begun. First semester started earlier than usual and so I did not even have time to prepare to be a senior.

However, I decided I will do whatever it takes to enjoy my final year as much as I possibly can and so I have taken up lots of different activities. As a president of the Czech and Slovak society I am, together with my fellow committee members trying to spread awareness about our society and to show our cultures. So far we have had some interesting socials where we cooked traditional food, screened nice Czech and Slovak movies and we are also hoping to join other societies for some bigger events in the future. Apart of that I spend couple of hours a week volunteering in my favourite Second-hand Bookshop.

In the final year students have to write their final piece of work – dissertation. To choose the topic for my own dissertation wasn’t easy. There are way too many things that I am interested in and with the deadline approaching I had to make a choice. I have chosen Hong Kong and the Umbrella revolution.  I spent a year in Hong Kong and I was always fascinated by Chinese culture. I’ve been also studying Mandarin Chinese for more than three years now and I am hoping to pass HSK 3 exam next semester. So let’s hope, that this topic was the right one.

Every year I also try some new sport. This year I decided to try rock climbing. My friend and I go three times a week to a centre near my flat, where we are challenged by new climbing routes every time. It’s is yet another way to relax and so far I am enjoying it a lot. I also hope that next time I travel somewhere I will be able to climb outdoor in the nature.

After my long summer break I got back my old job. I am not yet sure what will be the plan after my graduation, however there are many options and it is always good to have few pennies saved up. I would like to start new project, this time in Asia and also to finish what I have started in Madagascar. At the moment I am searching for donations so the children in my library can read in the evenings. Bringing the electricity to the village will be a huge change for them and challenge for me.

Now, however I have to put aside my travel plans and pick up a book about Chinese history. The dissertation will not write itself without help.
