Spring Break & Third Term Filled With Sports and Exams

The third term is, as usual, one of all exams and no teaching. This year I had 6 exams in 2 weeks so once again the month or two prior to it has been rather strenuous. The modules I had taken this year were Control Systems, Finance and Financial Management, Aircraft Structures, Aircraft Aerodynamics, Mathematics (Complex analysis) and Aircraft Systems Engineering and Unmanned Vehicle Technologies.

The exams were packed at the start of 3rd term, that is at the end of April, as compared to the usual mid-June. This was to allow enough time for a 6 week group project, in which 22 of us worked on a conceptual design of a Titan atmospheric flyer: a proposed UAV that would fly on Saturn’s moon Titan and collect scientific data about the surface and atmosphere of this still largely unexplored celestial body. A big takeaway from this project for me was mainly appreciating the challenges of working in a larger engineering team rather than individually where issues such as effective communication and effective teamwork become important.

This term I also finished my first ever Olympic Standard Triathlon. This was a British university championship event and I managed to finish in 2 hours 37 minutes which was roughly the time I was aiming for as a beginner. When time allows, I am planning to sign up for another race and hope to improve my time. My university ice hockey team finished 1st in its Tier in the British University Nationals which is also an achievement I am quite proud to have been a part of. Our college floorball team has also seen success, becoming the unofficial British university champion in an inter-university tournament held at Warwick University.

All in all, it’s been a varied term full of different experiences and I am looking forward to the summer now.
