Online term

The British government decided that they do not want students to return to the university for the second term of the school year 2020/2021 and that everyone should stay at home with online teaching. There were some exceptions, so some of my friends spent the term at the university, but I decided to stay at home.

These new arrangements had some unforeseen advantages and disadvantages. The advantage of staying at home was of course that I had all the comfort, I did not have to be concerned about cooking, shopping regularly, etc. There were even loads of snow, so I built a snowman and generally enjoyed the winter I would not have in Britain. Thanks to the fact that most students and teachers stayed at home, the online lectures are even more entertaining. Many people have pets at home and some of them appear on the camera from time to time and add a funny element to the lectures.

The biggest disadvantage turned up to be the lack of resources for essays. As the local library has been closed since December, I do not have access to any physical books and can only rely on online resources, which are rare. Luckily, the teachers are very flexible and understanding and try to make many of them accessible, even though it sometimes means that they scan a whole chapter manually. Another inconvenient part, which most students surely experienced, is that we cannot meet each other. Though we had some videocalls with friends, let us face it, videocalls are not the same as an evening spent with friends in person.

So that I do not finish with such a bleak topic, even though the circumstances are not ideal, I believe that they will get better soon, and I will be able to spend the next term in Cambridge with friend and classmates and we will make up for the months apart.
