One third of university life is over…

The year has passed by so quickly, and holidays are coming. To be honest, though, I felt like I was on vacation all throughout the year. When you do something you enjoy - hearing interesting lectures, working on various projects, constantly meeting many interesting people, travelling and playing sports - there is really no other way to feel.

The year has passed by so quickly, and holidays are coming. To be honest, though, I felt like I was on vacation all throughout the year. When you do something you enjoy – hearing interesting lectures, working on various projects, constantly meeting many interesting people, travelling and playing sports – there is really no other way to feel.

So what was my first university year like?

Let me start with the studies. In total, I studied eight subjects. You could divide them into lectures, tutorials and self-study or group work. Whereas in lectures you sit in a large room, listening to a teacher who’s trying to tell you something, in tutorials you are part of a small group of students who can discuss the respective subject or anything of interest to you. This is why I consider tutorials to be of greater benefit. But group work and group projects are what I like best. The group is mostly made up of five students who are trying to create something together, and as the groups are rather diverse, the process itself is quite an experience. You quickly discover that everybody is looking at the same thing from a different angle – whether a Russian or a Chinese (an example project here).

The other half of university life is made up of leisure activities. Surprisingly, I include part time work in this part. During the year, I visited the “Business Lab” and participated in various paid experiments. I also participated in paid discussions, always having good fun in the process. I believe now you understand why I categorize it in this way.

I would also like to mention a project that my girlfriend and I launched in December. The project is Studential.cz and it is meant to aid any student considering studying at a university in the UK.

When I was not too busy working or playing sports, I liked to wander the town’s vicinity, which is really beautiful. Aside from two national parks, there are many beautiful towns and villages (the Bath cathedral is in one photo, and the other photo is from a birthday party).

I definitely had a great time all the year, and I’m looking forward to the next one, which will be much more difficult – making it also more interesting. But I think I can say frankly that my first steps in the new phase of my life have been very successful.
