My last year of the Bachelor’s degree

I started my last year of the Bachelor’s degree at the Juilliard School of Music this past September. I will also apply for Master’s degree at a lot of school around ths US. The actual audition is usually in February and March but I had to submit my applications by December 1.

The students of the final year of the Bachelor’s degree do not have that many theoretical classes so they have more time to prepare for auditions and other exams. I only have two classes in the Fall semester; music history and liberal arts. I am in music class of prof. Verdrager who is a specialist on the music of the twentieth century. In liberal arts I am in class called Arts and Aesthetics Paris 1888 and 1889; we study what it was like to live in Paris around 1888 when all the great artists like Renoir, Cezanne, van Gogh, Monet and Puvis de Chavannes lived there.

I also became the concertmaster of the Juilliard Orchestra. I had to go through an audition that has three rounds to become one. I also participated in orchestra cycles under baton of Larry Rachleff and Vladimir Jurowski. We played all-Shostakovich program under Maestro Jurowski. On the other hand, we worked on Dvorak’s seventh symphony and Rachmaninoff’s second piano concerto.

It is actually hard to believe how quickly this semester has gone by. I will go home for Christmas in a little while and after I get back it will be all about auditions and getting into Master’s program and after that I will graduate.
