Last Good Bye

Third term passed by very quickly. I spent most of the time preparing for early May exams and then for synoptic vivas at the end of term.

One look at the central library at South Kensington campus and one can tell without hesitation that exam period has come again: There is barely any free seats left, unbreathable air, there are absolutely no free sockets and toilets are constantly short on toilet paper. Rumours say that there are even queues to get in in the early mornings at the weekend. For all these reasons, I tried my very best to avoid this place and study somewhere less crammed.

After that most of my schoolmates were done with their degrees, some of them were very happy about the idea of having nothing to do with chemistry any more in their lives. But this is not the case for me, I have one more year ahead and I will be spending that year in the USA in Georgia at Emory university to which I am very looking forward. Yes, against all the odds and bureaucracy obstacles during the application process, after months of uncertainty I can finally confirm that I am finally going abroad. After three years of the grey London sky, I shall experience some warm sunny days in Atlanta, time to move on!

Without any regrets, I can say it has been three challenging years, but definitely worth it. With my friends, we concluded that after enduring three years at Imperial and London, there is literally nothing we couldn’t adapt to and survive in the future.

One saying suggests that it is not about the place, but the people that makes us want to come back. I found that to be true. I shall not miss London as a city, but am I missing the people there already.
