First exams at Oxford

After Christmas holiday that I spent primarily with with my family, developmental psychology and a DSLR, I returned back to Oxford University in the middle of January, ready for cognitive science, dancing shoes and my first exams at the end of term.

And because Oxford terms are bewilderingly short and high-speed, it won't be too long before I come back to my Czech hometown again.

Getting used to the rhythm of life here is an art; whenever I manage to preserve some sort of a life balance, I end up rested.. and dissatisfied with my work. I thus approach balance as overrated; I try to eat life whole, whether that means sacrificing a few days to understand that damned prefrontal cortex perfectly (... I wish!), unexpectedly talking through wonderful two hours with a friend I randomly bumped into on the stairs, or aching feet from a day of dance competing. It's all a chaos in between beautiful buildings, fascinating conversations, unpredictable weather and hard work. I wouldn't want to spend my entire life in such an erratic manner, but for my first year at university I allow myself to afford it. When one is healthy, it's possible to sail through it all on adequate levels of adrenaline and cortisol. However, when you catch an annoying cough like me the past week, you just need to accept that slowing down this lovely, messy life, will only be possible once I'm back at home.
