Choosing my next direction

After spending my summer working as a research intern in Oxford’s Psychiatry department, I have been excited to apply to a similar type of work for my postgraduate degree next year.

Postgraduate applications are one of the defining challenges of my final year and I’m trying to choose my next direction carefully, even though it’s hard to predict where each different path may take me. I feel motivated to continue research on mental health and illness, but I’m not yet sure whether to take a more psychological or neuroscientific approach. It’s likely that this decision will be made for me by the application results themselves, which will constrain my future options. In the meantime, I’m trying to develop versatile skills that should be useful in many lines of research - programming, statistical analysis, broad overview of current scientific literature in my field.
