Back from the Word, back to Aberdeen

My year abroad was gone faster than I imagined. Hong Kong together with the whole Asia was amazing and I enjoyed every single day, not only I travelled a lot around the neighbouring countries whenever I had saved some money and had time, but I tried to really understand and get the most from the Asian culture.

And I think I did well and also for that reason I enjoyed my hitchhiking trip back home. I managed to hitchhike (with few trains exception) all the way from Hong Kong back home to Czech and I even had some time to visit countries like Mongolia, Kyrgyzstan and parts of Tibet. However, summer is over and calmer 12-week school year is waiting ahead of me.

The rain in Aberdeen is constantly reminding me, that I am indeed no longer in Asia. Thus, my only way to “keep in touch” with the Asian culture is to attend evening Chinese language classes and go through old photos. I would have never believed I would say that, but I do miss the Chinese food and noodles!

The last reminder of my year abroad was recent email I received from my University I Hong Kong, announcing that I have made it to the Dean List. I believe I travelled more than studied and here it is - this surprise just proves that if you study International Relations and Sociology (culture) it is better to travel and experience it all directly, rather than just read the books.

It has been few weeks since I arrived back to Scotland. Most of my time here I spend volunteering in Bookends (second-hand bookshop) but I also managed to find two jobs. I already refused one, and had chosen the one where more difficult process and paperwork is required in order to be unconditionally accepted. I prefer to have job that will has some meaning rather than just work for money. I already succeed in 2-hours long interview and now I just need few more papers to arrive from embassy so I can start working. I will work with people belonging to vulnerable group, that is people with autism, epilepsy or for example depressions and I will help those people with daily tasks and socialization in everyday life.

I am more and more sure, that the subject I have chosen to study are perfect match for me and thus I do enjoy the required reading and discussion in class. The only thing I need to be completely happy is more sun and warmer room.
