I had a bit of luck

The first semester of year 2 has ended and I can relax for a while now following the challenging exams. The second year has really set the standard for required work higher than the first year, so I can’t say that I am getting bored here in England. Yet, hard work and patience have paid off, and eventually I also had the bit of luck I needed.

I received above-average marks from the three exams I took in January, so I am carrying over a valuable percentage to my overall year mark. This year even counts towards the final degree, standing for 25% of the final grade.

Exams were not the main success though, as I was even happier when I was told that after a very difficult application process I have been offered a place with the European branch of Warner Bros. in London. In July, I will start my career in the distribution department for Eastern Europe and the Near East for one year. The application process, with over 300 applicants for this position, involved several rounds and the competition was tough.

After a screening of the applications, 17 students from the United Kingdom and Europe, including me, were invited to participate in the first round of interviews at the WB head office in London. The day consisted of several group activities, a presentation and analysis of one of the production company’s feature films, and individual interviews. The whole schedule lasted for about five hours, but the mood was very laid-back, and the WB representatives wanted to get the best out of all participants without any unnecessary stress. On that very day I received an e-mail telling me that I was short-listed for a final round of interviews, and two days later I was flying to London again. This time, there were only 4 applicants left and we were supposed to have two more interviews with the managers of the distribution department. Over the next few days I calmed myself with the fact that this was a valuable experience for future job hunting, even if I did not get the job with WB. To my surprise, I had a call this morning and I received an offer to become an employee of a global leader in the entertainment industry for one year.
