And the first year is over

Due to the unexpected inconvenience caused by the eruption of a volcano on Iceland, I got to Newcastle after the spring holidays 10 days later than I had planned, and so I had to start with my review for exams quickly and intensively. I had 5 exams waiting for me in late May and early June, all taking place one after another without any long breaks, so reviewing just before every exam was not an option. Moreover, before I could start reviewing I had two seminar papers to finish and we also had to sort out lodging for me for the following academic year.

Before I realized it, my seminar papers were handed in, my exams were finished, and the contract for our house signed. The whole year passed so quickly, and the end of it went even more quickly. About 14 days before the exams started I bought a lot of energy drinks in a sale and started to review. My days were basically the same from then on – wake up at 9, get to a working state by 10 and then, with breaks for running and playing tennis, reading books, notes, and presentations for the rest of the day. Some subjects were more fun than others, but I had to study for all of them. What made my reviewing easier, and harder at the same time, was the fact that it was 25° Celsius in the shade in Newcastle, with no clouds in the sky for nearly all day long in the week just before exams. Reviewng outside was not so tiring, but many times one could find many better things to do on a nice day than to spend it reading books. Both the studying and then the exam period were an excellent experience for me which I’m looking forward to enjoying again. I just hope it will not be earlier than in a year’s time.

And so the first year of yet another stage of my life is over. I will see whether I finished it successfully because I will have to wait for the exam results for another month. The only result I’ve received so far is marketing, where I scored nearly 90%, and I hope the other results will be similarly good. But for now, I have to say good-bye to Newcastle for three months, and even though I can’t wait to get back for my second year at university, I am very happy that I will be able to spend a lot of time with my family and friends over the holidays.
